نوبات الغضب شائعة لدى الأطفال المصابين باضطراب طيف التوحد. ومع ذلك، فإن تكرار هذه النوبات يستدعي فحصًا أعمق للعوامل الكامنة التي قد تسهم في حدوثها.
Normal brain development -especially in children – depends on proper nutrition.
Conversely, a persistent lack of vitamins and minerals can be extremely dangerous, particularly in early developmental stages. Parents of children with autism need to be especially conscious of this.
Understanding Autism and Selective Eating in Children
Most children on the autism spectrum consume a diet based primarily on simple carbohydrates and sugars. Yet, over time, avoiding healthy foods will almost certainly lead to significant nutritional deficiencies in crucial amino acids, vitamins, and minerals.
Even children who are less picky about the foods they eat risk experiencing significant nutritional deficiencies. This is often due to absorption problems (i.e., the body’s inability to absorb nutrients that are critical for proper development).
In order to understand the specific problems that may arise, one must perform a broad range of laboratory tests, analyze the results in detail, and understand how best to achieve the desired outcome.
How Routine Changes Impact Autism
A common characteristic among children with autism is causing harm to themselves or others. Children with autism may also have outbursts composed of crying, screaming, or even throwing objects.
As these autism tantrums become more frequent, the cause needs to be examined. The child’s routine is an ideal place to start.
This is because, in many cases, tantrums are caused by a child’s inability to cope with a change in routine. Autistic children, in particular, often lash out in these situations.
For parents of autistic children, these outbursts are far too common. This is precisely why a consistent routine can help. Autistic children find routines deeply comforting, as even the smallest changes may threaten their sense of security.
A change in routine can elevate the child’s stress, resulting in increased frustration and an inability to understand the situation. This may also result in behavioral regression and eventually become cyclical in nature. However, balancing the child’s serotonin levels may help reduce the frequency of outbursts.
Ultimately, continued mental stress creates a biological reaction of increased cortisol, norepinephrine, and epinephrine, which causes immune weakness, exhaustion, and depression. Therefore, the body requires nutrients such as B vitamins, magnesium, and ascorbic acid to maintain nervous system balance.
What Causes Autism Tantrums?
Many things can cause tantrums, but high levels of Candida albicans, yeast, and other fungi within the digestive tract can aggravate symptoms.
Additionally, food sensitivities can prevent casein and gluten from digesting properly in the body. Research also shows that these sensitivities can lead to violent autism tantrums.
Furthermore, a zinc deficiency can lead to Metallothionein, an enzyme created by metabolic disorders, and lower zinc levels overall. Testing should be administered promptly if a zinc deficiency is suspected to be the cause of autism tantrums.
High Sugar Intake, Glucose Metabolism Disorders, and Nutritional Supplements
An omega-3 fatty acid deficiency can result in a lack of nutrients needed by the brain. However, many nutritional sources can calm the nervous system and help make autism tantrums a thing of the past. These include complex carbs, including whole grains, and a high-potassium diet.
Autistic children with low levels of zinc should consume whole grains, chicken, beef, and legumes.
In turn, supplements that can be used to improve GABA production include inositol, green tea theanine, magnesium, and B vitamins.
Adaptogenic herbs can help to treat chronic stress, including:
- Centella
- Bacopa
- Rhodiola
- Schisandra Chinensis
- Valerian
- Withania
- Passionflower
- Melissa
These herbs show signs of reducing anxiety and stress, significantly increasing autistic children’s ability to cope with common challenges. While it may be helpful to note that a tantrum might be the only way the child knows to express themselves in a stressful situation, identifying the root cause can lead to great improvements.

Dreams Can Come True
See how C.A.T.’s targeted nutritional supplements therapy changed three-year-old Lior’s Life.
In May 2020, we embarked on a fascinating documentary journey. For five months, we filmed Lior and his parents. The film documents his targeted therapy and teaches how it is possible to dramatically reduce autism symptoms by analyzing advanced laboratory tests and applying an in-depth understanding of how to repair impaired metabolic processes that influence behaviors.
